One of the finest of the tropical fruits, mangoes vary from long and narrow to almost round. A gorgeous colourful fruit, the skin may be yellow or orange with a pretty red blush or be greenish yellow to a rich golden yellow. Varying in length from two to over ten inches, this fruit can weigh four and one-half pounds. Mangoes generally have a slight ridge on one side and a pronounced "beak" at one end. The large pit in the centre has attached fibres that most often extend into the pulp. Highly aromatic, the flavour of the marvelous mangoe is sweet and absolutely delicious. The best flavored fruit usually has a yellow tinge, but then again, the color may be red, yellow, green, orange or any combination in between.

Claiming to be the most delicious and aromatic of all melons, this small round tasty treat usually has a rough prominent surface. When ripe, the pale orange flesh is very juicy and deliciously sweet. Choose one that is heavy for its size, releases a sweet fruity fragrance and has a thick raised netting with a slightly golden undercolor. It should yield slightly to finger pressure at its blossom end when ready to eat.
